BLUEFIELD, Va. — Thomas A. Ratcliffe, 87, of Princeton Health Care Center and formerly of Bluefield, Va., went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007.

He was born in Haysi, Va. on June 22, 1920, and was a son of the late John A. and Lillian L. Hopkins Ratcliffe.

He had served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp. as a Heavy Bomber mechanic. He was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church for many years and was currently a member of Mt. Jackson Baptist Church in Athens. He had spent most of his life as a carpenter and had worked for Bailey Lumber Company, and retired from Ossit Church Furniture Company. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, was a member of the American Legion in Bluefield, Va., the N.R.A., and life member of the Triangle Sportsman’s Club also in Bluefield, Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ila Jean Scott Ratcliffe; a brother, Ward Ratcliffe; and a sister, Etta Mae Tabor.

Survivors include: Son, John R. Ratcliffe, Sr. and wife Rebecca of Bluefield; daughter, Donna Jean Coleman and husband Greg of Athens; grandchildren, John R. Ratcliffe, Jr. and wife Traci of Lashmeet, Robyn S. Nelsen and husband Steve of Houston, Texas, Kattie Walter of Pittsburgh, Pa.; great grandson, Cole Walters; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Pastor Eugene Harmon, Pastor Charley Rice, and Evangelist Dale Vance officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be Eddie Windle, John Ratcliffe, Jr., Sam Workman, Joey Windle, Randy Yost, John Murray and Tommy Tabor. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Bluefield, Va. VFW Memorial Post 9696 and the Pocahontas American Legion Post 14.

Donations may be made to the Princeton Health Care Center, 3115 Courthouse Rd., Princeton.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 3, 2007 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va.
