BLUEFIELD — The Big Blue Tennis Camp for children, directed by Bluefield State head coach Louie Belt, will take place this week, Monday through Friday, at the Bluefield City Tennis Courts. The camp will work on improving stroke techniques, strategy and match play in a fun and enjoyable environment. Children will be grouped into three divisions — ages 4-6, 7-12 and 13-18. Belt is a former member of the varsity tennis squad at Virginia Tech and is certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association. Bluefield State, a regional tennis power, has been in the NCAA Division II national tournament for nine straight seasons. WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS — The Greenbrier Champions Tennis Classic takes place Sept. 15 and 16 at Center Court at Creekside at The Greenbrier. On Saturday, sisters Serena and Venus Williams are scheduled to play a singles match at noon, followed by a men’s singles encounter between Kevin Anderson and Marcos Baghdatis. ATHENS — A children’s soccer camp will take place July 30 through Aug. 3 for boys and girls ages 6-15, hosted at Concord University by the CU women’s soccer program. The camp will focus on technical and tactical ability, in an environment that is professional, fun and friendly.
