HUNTINGTON — The University of Richmond opened up a 30-point halftime lead and did not look back, downing the Marshall Thundering Herd women's basketball team, 74-49 Saturday afternoon at the Cam Henderson Center.

The Spiders (9-1) shot .731 in the first half while holding the Herd (6-4) to just 16 first-half points.

Tynikki Crook was once again the top scorer for the Herd, finishing with 13 points. Chantelle Handy and Alyssa Hammond scored 11 apiece. Handy led all players with seven rebounds, including four on the offensive glass.

Richmond went on a 13-4 run to go up 24-8 and led 46-16 at halftime. It was the second time in three games the Herd failed to score 20 points in the opening half.

Richmond out-shot the Herd, 55 to 38 percent, while finishing with a rebounding advantage of 32-26.

Johanna McKnight led Richmond with 14 points while Samantha Bilney tallied 11 and Rachael Bilney had 10.

The Herd will have the next nine days off before taking the court again at the Terrapin Classic, which will be hosted by the University of Maryland. Marshall will face Mississippi State on Dec. 29 at noon before taking on either Maryland or UNC Asheville on Dec. 30.
