HILLSVILLE, Va. — In their season-opening tournament, the Graham G-Men wrestlers’ “A-team” took fifth place out of 21 teams Saturday at the Carroll County Invitational.
Marion won top honors, with Magna Vista second, Galax third, and Bassett fourth.
The Graham “B-team” finished 11th.
Graham coach Tim Woodward said, “With the level of competition we had here, we were very pleased with the effort of the boys to make it into the top five.”
Individual honors for GHS included one first-place finish, Jim Ed Williams at 171 pounds with a 4-0 record.
Andrew Epperson took second at 275 pounds, going 4-1. Third place finishers included 103-pounder Chase Stasheen (1-1), 152-pounder Charlie Holbrook (4-1) and Casey Barreras at 215 pounds (4-1). Ben Gross (3-2) had a fourth-place finish at 140 pounds.
The next meet for the G-Men is the Aggie Skeens Memorial Tournament in Grundy on Dec. 29-30.
