FAIRMONT — A perfect day from the foul stripe and solid defense lifted Concord to a 62-48 women's basketball victory over Slippery Rock on Wednesday afternoon to complete a sweep at the Fairmont State New Year's Classic.

The Mountain Lions connected on all 15 of their free throw attempts and placed four scorers in double figures as they improved to 7-2, the program's best start since the 1980's. Concord defeated 73-63 in the opening round of the tourney on Tuesday.

Samm Nester tallied 17 points to lead CU, while Jamie Cluesman and Becca Flanagan also chipped in a dozen points each. Shari Walker finished with 11. Cluesman dished out a game-high seven assists.

Concord took the lead for good at the 12:22 mark when Cluesman's three-pointer gave the Lions a 36-35 edge. An old-fashioned three-point play by Nester and a Walker trifecta over the next minute helped push the lead to 42-35 and CU was never headed as the lead would eventually grow to as many as 18 points at 60-42 in the final minutes.

Slippery Rock, which only hit on 19 of 50 field goals was led by Amanda Nero's nine points. Kelly Ann Staudinger added eight points for the Rock.
