JACKSONVILLE, N.C. — On Wednesday, October 31, 2007 the gates of Heaven opened as our Lord welcomed home our brother, uncle, and friend USMC Sgt. Maurice Beck.

Born October 8, 1934 in Freeman, he was the son of the late Daniel Moore and Leona Beck-Towler. Upon completing his education in Bramwell, Maurice joined the U.S. Marine Corp. After a career of service to his country, he retired from the Marines in 1976 and made his home with his wife, Margaret Howard-Beck in Jacksonville, N.C. While living in Jacksonville, he worked and retired from Warehouses and was an active member of both The American Legion and VFW Post.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by son, Kevin Beck; stepfather, Junest Towler; sister, Carolyn Beck-Ellison; and brother, James Henry Towler.

Those left to cherish his memory are four sisters: Shelia (Howard) Leggett of Bluefield, Claudette Smith and Sandra Moore both of Wilmington, Del., and Marie Martin of Tennessee; four brothers, Wilmer Beck of Milwaukee, Wis., Edward (Catherine) Moore of Virginia Beach, Va., Harold Lee Moore of Wilmington, Del., and Robert Towler of Columbus, Ohio. He will also be dearly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends which included special friends, Leon and Marie Johnson of Jacksonville, N.C.

Friends may call on Monday, November 5, 2007 at 12 noon at Chapel Funeral Home and Cremations, 1335 Bland St., Bluefield. Graveside rites will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Bluewell.
