OAKWOOD, Va. — Phyllis Ann McVay Raines, 63 years of age, of Oakwood, Va., passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville, Va., following a brief illness.

Born in Coshocton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Herman and Hattie Roach McVay. She was a resident of Buchanan County most of her life and was of the Christian faith. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother and was a wonderful homemaker.

Mrs. Raines is survived by her husband, Paul Raines of Oakwood, Va.; one son: Donald and wife Heather Rice of Marion, Va.; one granddaughter: Courtney Grace Rice of Marion, Va.; one grandson: Jacob Chandler Rice of Marion, Va.; four sisters: Alice Zickefoose of Coshocton, Ohio, Pauline Stevens of Coshocton, Ohio, Marilyn Watson of Coshocton, Ohio, Darlene Foster of Coshocton, Ohio; two brothers: Junior McVay of Coshocton, Ohio and Jim McVay of Coshocton, Ohio. Also, survived by several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Vester and Sheryl Ward, Tom and Robin Watson, and Teddy and Marci Watson.

She was preceded in death by one sister: Letta McVay Watson and one brother: Denvil McVay.

Graveside Services for Phyllis Ann McVay Raines will be conducted Monday, November 19, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va., with Evg. Mike Rife officiating with burial to follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, Va.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be Tom Watson, Teddy Watson, Travis Watson, Jason Ward, Jeremy Ward, Vester Ward and Lonnie Raines.
