It is time for another plea to our area residents and former residents regarding our new Christmas lights for the Brushfork/Bluewell community.

We need about $5,000 to reach our goal of 20K. We have worked hard and continue to do so. Alabaster Books just had a very successful hotdog and bake sale last week. So many businesses and individuals have helped us.

We are so humbled by everyone’s kindness and generosity. Both Bluewell and Brushfork schools are getting ready to begin a fund-raising activity thanks to teacher Jane Strickland. I am sure there are many supporters out there who have just forgotten to donate and I hope they will get their donation in ASAP.

The easiest way to donate is to write a check and take it to either bank in Bluewell.  Checks should be written to Bluewell Volunteer Fire Dept. (Check is receipt for tax deduction). These checks may also be mailed to M. Shires, c/o RR3 Box 20, Bluefield, WV 24701.

Also there are green donation containers in most businesses in Bluewell. Just drop your donation there as I collect that money on a regular basis.

Again, thanks so much for all you do for the community.

We are also having a trash clean-up day on Saturday, Oct.1 (Come to Bluewell Methodist at 11 a.m. —hot dogs after.)

Let’s make our towns shine!
