Area residents, and job seekers in particular, should mark Thursday, June 20, on their calendar. That’s because West Virginia Day will take on an added level of importance for the city of Bluefield this year.

Intuit, along with their new partner employer Alorica, will be holding a Lemonade Block Party on Commerce Street in the downtown on that day. The activities will be held at 622 Commerce Street at the former AAA building, which is being used as the temporary headquarters for Alorica. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and those individuals seeking employment with the new Alorica/Intuit team will be able to submit a resume at that time.

Intuit and Alorica are bringing 200 to 500 new jobs to downtown Bluefield for a new customer care center. The companies also plan to partner with the city on the creation of an Innovation Lab, a project designed to promote additional entrepreneurship growth in the area.

In addition to the Lemonade Block Party on June 20, an Alorica hiring event also will be held today at the Bluefield Arts Center. Event details on Indeed.com say those interested in applying can be at the arts center today between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Hiring for Alorica in Bluefield also is now underway online. This is great news for the region. It means that the Prosperity Hub planned for Bluefield by Intuit is now on a fast track.

In an article submitted last week to the Daily Telegraph, Intuit said Bluefield was selected for the Prosperity Lab project for a variety of factors including: business success factors, the local workforce, a place with a real need and a clear focus from local and regional government on economic development.

“The Prosperity Hub coming to Bluefield is greatly inspired by Intuit’s mission to power prosperity around the world, especially for those who need it most,” the article continued. “Our vision for Bluefield and other Prosperity Hub cities is to bring jobs, skills, financial well-being and small business success, creating a positive ripple effect on the economy and success for each city and region.”

Great! We are excited, and you should be too. We hope to see a good turn-out June 20 for the big Lemonade Block Party. Don’t forget to bring your resume if you are hoping to join the new Alorica/Intuit team in Bluefield.
