BLUEFIELD — Bluefield Regional Medical Center will be having its anniversary celebration of the Healthy Woman Program on Thursday at the Quality Inn in Bluefield. The Healthy Woman anniversary celebration kicks off at 5 p.m.

“We’ve been doing a series on being healthy and this is actually the third part of the three part series. It just wraps it all up. The first part was about fitness, the second was about nutrition and this is just going to tie it all together,” Sherri Cox, coordinator for the Healthy Women’s Program said.

During the Healthy Woman anniversary event there will be 25 vendors set up for the program. Different businesses will be showcasing their products along with several physician offices providing health care information and screenings. They will also be having a dinner with a guest speaker. The dinner begins at 6p.m. and costs $15.

Casey Palmer who works with the New Opportunity School for Women at Bluefield College will be the guest speaker. “We wanted to showcase a local person. This program is all about women and making wise healthcare decisions. We chose Casey Palmer because of the work she is doing with the New Opportunity School for women,” Cox said.

The program has influenced several women in our community. “We thought that it would be a good fit. We wanted to get the word out to women in our area about this program and how it’s changed the lives of so many women,” Cox said.

Bringing women together, the Healthy Woman anniversary event provides women with working knowledge of systems that can help them. “It brings women in the community together. It shows that you do have a support system,” Cox said.

“This is not just a one time event. The healthy woman program goes on through out the year. We have four or five events that go on throughout the year,” Cox said. The hospital is planning on having about a hundred in attendance for the celebration.

The first 150 people to register for the event will receive a free Healthy Woman’s Cookbook. To register click on the Healthy Woman link online at www.bluefieldregionalmedicalcenter.net. All participants will receive a gift bag and pedometer.
