HAYSI, Va. — The Virginia State Police are conducting an investigation into an officer-involved shooting late Tuesday night involving a Haysi man and a Dickenson County sheriff’s deputy.
At about 11:30 p.m., Dickenson County Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene of a report of a male subject threatening rescue squad personnel with a firearm on Doe Branch in Haysi. The male subject refused to comply with the instructions of law enforcement officers and when he began threatening law enforcement officers, one of the responding deputies shot him, according to a Virginia State Police press release.
The man was transported to Bristol Regional Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The Dickenson County Sheriff’s Office asked the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Wytheville Field Office’s Police Shooting Investigative Team to conduct an investigation into the incident.
