CAMP CREEK — A tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 77 that resulted in traffic delays Thursday morning was extinguished approximately an hour after the blaze began.

The fire, which occurred around 7:30 a.m. at mile marker 23, resulted in closure of the northbound lanes.

The truck was reported to have been “fully engulfed” by flames, an official with the West Virginia State Police Turnpike detachment said around 8:30 a.m.

The truck was hauling plastics, First Sgt. R.A. Maddy said. “The fire started in the engine compartment.”

Maddy said no injuries were reported.

At one point, traffic was backed up to around exit 20 northbound.
