TAZEWELL, Va. — Tazewell County’s Commonwealth’s attorney announced Thursday at a new chief deputy commonwealth’s attorney will now serve in his office.

Michael Lee Dennis, Commonwealth’s Attorney for Tazewell County, said that Brandon Scott Goins has been appointed as Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney for his office.

“Mr. Goins has been serving as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney since 2006. He has prosecuted, or assisted in the prosecution of, over 1,000 felony cases during his 13- year career,” Dennis stated. 

Goins received his law degree from Appalachian School of Law in Grundy, Va. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Radford University in 2003.

Goins is a member and Trustee at Emmanuel Baptist Church and serves as song leader and sound room/recording technician. He also served on the Richlands Athletic League board of directors for three years. He has coached girls softball for 10 years, including little league/Richlands Middle School/and travel softball teams. Additionally, Goins helps coach in the Richlands Midget Football league and Richlands Youth Basketball. He currently announces Richlands High School Softball games and Richlands High School JV basketball games and assists/announces varsity games as needed.

“With Mr. Goins experience and training he will certainly continue to be an asset and resource to me and my office. The designation of Chief Deputy will allow Mr. Goins to work closely with me as I continue to serve the citizens of Tazewell County,” Dennis said.
