A car crash on Rt. 52 in McDowell County Wednesday afternoon sent two to the hospital by helicopter.
Chief Deputy James E. Muncy Jr. with the McDowell County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the call at 4 p.m. and found a two-vehicle wreck in the Johnny Cake Mountain area.
The drivers of both vehicles had to be air-lifted from the scene, he said, and “alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in this accident and charges are pending.”
No names have been released at this time and the victims transported were the only ones injured in the crash.
Deputies were assisted by WV DNR (Dept. of Natural Resources), Ieager Police Department, Ieager Fire Department, STAT EMS and Jan Care EMS.
The crash resulted in Rt. 52 being closed for about an hour and a half.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
