PRINCETON — A concert scheduled on the official day of romance will benefit local veterans while bringing a cast member from “Gilligan’s Island” and outstanding musicians to the Chuck Mathena Center stage.

The Valentines for Veterans Concert will get underway 7 p.m. Feb. 14, Valentines Day, at the Chuck Mathena Center in Princeton. Dawn Wells, known to millions as Mary Ann from the television show “Gilligan’s Island” will be the concert’s master of ceremonies, according to Dreama Denver, president of the Denver Foundation.

“Everybody who grew up watching ‘Gilligan’s Island’ and dreamed about Mary Ann, here’s a chance to finally be able to meet her,” Denver said.

The fundraising concert will offer veterans special ticket prices, special seating, some free gifts and a chance to “meet and greet” backstage with the performers, she said.

“Obviously we’re honoring veterans at this event,” Denver said. “It will benefit the Denver Foundation and the work we do with veterans like the Always Free Honor Flight, but it will also benefit the Southeast West Virginia Red Cross and the work they do for veterans. I think it’s going to be exciting.”

Performers coming to the Valentines for Veterans Concert stage include West Virginian and season six “America’s Got Talent” winner Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. and his all-star band. Maiya Sykes, soul-singer from NBC TV’s “The Voice” and vocalist for PostModern Jukebox is also scheduled to appear along with singer and actor Von Lewis from the Golden Globe winning and Oscar nominated movie “Green Book,” and Las Vegas and Atlantic City headliner Dave Damiani. Singer Abbey Clark will perform a tribute to Pasty Cline.

Valentines for Veterans tickets are on sale now. There are a very limited number of dinner and VIP Gold Circle ticket packages available. Tickets are available at, by phone at 304-425-5128 and the Chuck Mathena Center box office.

The Always Free Honor Flight Program offers bus trips to Washington D.C. so veterans can see the monuments erected to honor them.
