TAZEWELL, Va. — Joe Michael “Mike” Donithan, age 50, of Tazewell, Va., died Thursday, May 22, 2008 in a Tazewell hospital following a brief illness.

He was born at Galax, Va. and was a son of Peggy Donithan Ratliff of Tazewell, Va. and the late Joseph H. Donithan.

He was a life long resident of the Tazewell area. He was owner and operator of Donithan Waterworks in Gratton, Va. and had been a coal miner for several years. He was a member of Concord Methodist Church in Gratton, Va.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Earl Donithan, Robert Dean Donithan and stepfather, Bueford Paul Ratliff whom he loved dearly.

Survivors in addition to his mother are: Wife, Cindy Harman Donithan; son: Michael Donithan of the home; sisters: Margaret D. Lee and husband David of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Teresa Donithan of Tazewell, Va.; brother: Jim Donithan of Tazewell, Va.; special friend: Sam Peery.

Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Tazewell, Va. with the Rev. Rodney Lawson officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. till the funeral hour.
