NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. — Glenda Akins Patton, 61, of 206 Tanglewood Dr., North Tazewell, Va. went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 26, 2009.
She was born in Opelika, Ala. and was a daughter of the late William Henry Akins and Ida Pearl Puckett Akins.
Glenda was employed at the Springville Elementary School where she had worked for 26 years and was a cafeteria manager. She was of the Southern Baptist faith and was a member of the Northside Baptist Church in Opelika, Ala., was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bluefield, Va. VFW Memorial Post 9696 and was a member of several Food Service Associations.
She was a devoted wife to her husband, children, grandchildren and her school associates and school children.
She is survived by her husband, William R. “Bob” Patton; daughters, Becky Gearheart and husband Charles, North Tazewell, Va., Deby Brown and husband Scott, North Tazewell, Va.; grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan, Victoria, Stephanie, Christian, and Austin; brothers, Ted Akins and wife Shirley, Savannah, Ga., Dean Akins and wife Karen, Shirley, Mass.; sisters, Margaret Mezick and husband Woody, Lanett, Ala., Willine Moss and husband Bob, Greensboro, N.C.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 29, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Sherry Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Charles Gearheart, Scott Brown, Willie Lowe, Jeff Price, Terry Neal, and grandsons, Andrew and Nathan Brown.
The Patton family received friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Following the funeral services, a reception to celebrate her life will be held at the Springville Elementary School.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary of Bluefield, Va. is serving the Glenda Akins Patton family.
