SANDLICK — Gertrude L. Roberts, 84, of Rt. 1, Bluefield (Sandlick Road.), went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 16, 2007 at Westwood Health Care Nursing Home in Bluefield, Va.

Born December 29, 1922 at Arista, she was the daughter of the late Levi Bailey and Gladys Hatcher Bailey.

Mrs. Roberts was a devoted wife to her husband, Boyd Roberts, who preceded her in death by seven weeks and one day. They celebrated 68 years of marriage on July 22, 2007. Gertrude loved her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great, great-grandchildren. She loved to cook, making her special biscuits and homemade pies. She was a devoted and faithful member of Sandlick United Methodist Church. She loved singing in the choir, singing specials and teaching children in VBS. She was also the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She also loved to go bowling with her church friends who were so faithful to visit her in the hospital and nursing home.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Boyd H. Roberts, in September 2007; two brothers, Earl Bailey and Arlie Bailey; and one sister, Betty Bailey Wagner Ford.

Survivors include one daughter, Rita Randolph of South Amherst, Ohio; two sons, Reverend Larry B. Roberts and his wife Judy and Tommy W. Roberts and his wife Arlene, all of Sandlick; one sister, Joann Bailey Marshall of California; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and nine great, great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 19, 2007 at the Rowland H. Bailey Funeral Chapel of the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with her son, Rev. Larry B. Roberts officiating, assisted by her grandsons, Revs. Travis Bailey and David Roberts. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Princeton. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
