BLUEFIELD — Ethel Sue Whitehead Peoples, age 69, of Route 5, Box 640 (Ridgemont Road), Bluefield, died on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at her residence.

Born on January 17, 1938 in Tannersville, Va., she was a daughter of the late Samuel Edward and Dorothy Elizabeth Hagy Whitehead. She had been a resident of Bluefield for 62 years and was a member of the Valley View Seventh Day Adventist Church. She was a retired clerk at Craft Memorial Library in Bluefield with 30 years of service.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack J. Peoples; a brother, William (Bill) Whitehead; and a sister, Linda Shoemaker.

Survivors include: Five sons: Jeffrey M. Whitehead of the home, Jackie M. Whitehead and wife Renee of Bluefield, Johnny M. Peoples and fiancée Stephanie of Bluefield, Christopher J. Peoples and wife Robin of Charlotte, N.C., Samuel Jackson Peoples and wife Candice of Charlotte, N.C.; two daughters: Sarah Elizabeth (Joy) Johnson of Bluefield, Jeanie Valinda Smalls and husband Hugh of Bluefield; one stepdaughter, Delma Bailey of Bluefield; 15 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; one brother: Robert (Bob) Whitehead of Baltimore, Md.; one sister: Stella Louise Cundiff of Bluefield, Va.; two sisters in law: Sallie McClanahan of Bluefield and Christine Webb of Portsmouth, Va.; special daughter in law: Jacqueline Whitehead of Bluefield.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Captain Jerry Lester and the Rev. David Byrkit officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Jeffrey and Jackie Whitehead; Johnny, Christopher, and Samuel Peoples; and Hugh Smalls will serve as pallbearers.

Friends may call on Monday evening from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
