BLUEFIELD — Charles Ray Salyers, 81, of 2808 Clovis St., Bluefield, W.Va., died Saturday, March 14, 2009 at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Louisa, Kentucky and was a son of the late Roscoe Salyers and Nora McKenzie Salyers.
He was a former employee for Leatherwood Dairy for over 30 years and retired from Graham High School where he was a custodian.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin, Hoadley, Chester, Otchel, Troy and Earl Salyers and by a sister, Myrtle Chaffins.
He is survived by his former wife, Betty L. Salyers of North Tazewell, Va.; son, Charles (Chuck) Salyers II of North Tazewell, Va.; daughters, Kathy Shatley and husband Wayne of Bluefield, W.Va., Berreda Ratliff and husband Mack of Tip Top, Va.; brother, Orville (Noonie) Salyers of Louisa, Ky.; grandchildren, Tiffany Grooms and husband Heath of Mocksville, N.C., Joshua Salyers of Richlands, Va., Samantha Salyers of King College, Bristol, Tenn., Betsy Salyers of Richlands, Va.; one great-granddaughter, Afton Tillman of Mocksville, N.C.; special family member, David McReynolds of North Tazewell, Va.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Chapel in Bluefield, Va. with Jeff Stacy officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Wayne Shatley, David McReynolds, Joshua Salyers and friends.
The Salyers family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. is serving the Salyers family.
