BUCKHANNON, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia Wesleyan professor is studying the effect of insecticides on stinkbugs and is soliciting insects for the research.

Jeanne Sullivan has received a one-year $7,000 grant from the State Horticultural Association of Pennsylvania for the study of the pesky house critters.

The mobile bug was thought to have stowed away in a shipment from Asia in the 1990s. They destroy crops and cause severe economic damage across Mid-Atlantic states.

Although she has about 1,500 specimens in her lab, she will need a few thousand males and females to complete her research.

The Charleston Daily Mail reports (http://bit.ly/11q8bDb) that while they are annoying to homeowners, they're not particularly hazardous. But their multiplication and appetite crops is causing concern.
