PRINCETON — A Princeton man died Wednesday following a single-vehicle crash on US Route 460, police said.

David Allen Carter, 22, of Princeton, was driving a 1995 Ford Ranger in the westbound lane on US Route 460 when he somehow lost control of his vehicle and ran into guard rail near Mercer Mall, according to Sgt. M.D. Clemons, of the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment.

Clemons said the truck rolled over and Carter was ejected from the vehicle.

Investigating officer, Corporal D.W. Miller, of the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment said Carter died at the scene of the crash, which occurred around 8 a.m.

“According to his family, he was on his way to work and he had left around 7:15 a.m. We don’t know how he lost control. It’s possible that he was distracted by something in the vehicle,” Miller said.

Corporal J.C. Long, of the West Virginia State Police Princeton detachment, assisted with the investigation.

Members of Green Valley Volunteer Fire Department and Princeton Rescue Squad also responded.
