ABINGDON, Va. — Alvery Wallace Tiller, 59 years of age, of Abingdon, Va., formerly of Buchanan County, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 at his home following an extended illness.

Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Muncie Rell and Carrie Wright Tiller. He was a resident of Buchanan County most of his life and was a member of In the Beginning Fellowship Chapel. He was a loving father and grandfather and was a disabled coal miner. Mr. Tiller was a member of the American Legion, United Mine Workers of America, and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam conflict.

He is survived by his former wife: Mitzi Tiller, Bristol, Va.; one daughter: Caroline and husband Keith Tabor, Bristol, Va.; one son: Travis Muncie Tiller, Abingdon, Va.; seven sisters: Arlene Howard, Culpepper, Va., Loraine Adkins, Dumfries, Va., Mavis Stacy, Vansant, Va., Kay Brown, Bedford, Va., Anita Donahue, Moneta, Va., Audrey Boyd, Bishop, Va., Donna Adkins, Vansant, Va.; two brothers: Gary Tiller, Lebanon, Va., Dean Tiller, Vansant, Va. Also survived by two grandchildren: Alex Tabor and Nicholas Tabor; and one honorary granddaughter: Amanda O'Quinn.

Funeral services for Alvery Wallace Tiller will be conducted Monday, May 26, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Elders: Frank Newsome, John Tiller and Larry Tiller officiating with burial to follow in the Wright Cemetery, Grundy, Va. Full Military Rites will be conducted at the cemetery by members of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.

Friends may call at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel Sunday (today) at 5:00 p.m. with services at 7:00 p.m.

Active pallbearers will be nephews.
