An official at a Veterans Affairs hospital in Clarksburg says small amounts of bacteria linked to Legionnaires disease has been found in the facility’s water system.
But Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center director Beth Brown says no patients have contracted the disease.
Media outlets report the bacteria was found after a recent assessment of the facility’s water system. Brown says the medical center is taking precautions to minimize the risk to people.
The bacteria can end up in artificial water supply systems, including air conditioning units, water services and cooling towers. People who get sick from it have symptoms similar to the flu, including coughs, fever and chills.
