McDowell County authorities offer reward in arson case

KIMBALL — Authorities in McDowell County are offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to an arrest regarding a fire that destroyed an abandoned apartment building in Kimball.

“Brawley Apartments was completely destroyed,” Kimball Fire Chief Jimmy Gianato said.

The fire started at 8:50 p.m., on Sunday. The Welch, Kimball and Keystone Fire Departments responded to the blaze, which continued until 4 a.m. Crews were able to contain the fire to one building.

Gianato said the state fire marshal is investigating the case, but authorities believe arson is to blame for the fire.
