W.Va. marbles tournament April 19 in capital city

CHARLESTON (AP) — A game familiar to an older generation is at the center of a tournament in Charleston this month.

The 6th A. James Manchin Marble Tournament will be held April 19 at the West Virginia Division of Culture and History. The tournament is sponsored by the West Virginia Marble Shooters Association. It is free and open to children from 7 to 14, and to all skill levels.

Players will compete in a game called Ringer. It’s played by placing 13 marbles in the form of an “X” in a 10-foot circle. Players take alternate shots.
