Charge dismissed in W.Va. neglect case

ELKINS — A neglect charge against an Elkins man accused of forcing his young children to smoke marijuana has been dismissed.

Randolph County prosecutor Michael Parker tells The Inter-Mountain  that urinalysis tests performed on the children were negative.

Parker says authorities are awaiting the results of hair tests and the investigation is continuing.

The charge against 28-year-old Timothy Wayne Hedrick was dismissed without prejudice. That means it could be refiled.

Hedrick had been charged with child neglect creating risk of injury.

Police say Hedrick’s 6-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter told a state Child Protective Services worker that their father forced them to smoke marijuana. The worker notified the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
