W.Va. spring gobbler season opens

MORGANTOWN — Spring gobbler season is under way in West Virginia.

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources says the season opened Monday and will run through May 24.

Hunters may kill only one bearded turkey per day and are limited to two per season.

Most birds harvested are about 2 years old. Based on 2012 brood reports that were lower than the five-year average, officials are expecting a lower statewide harvest in 2014.

A one-day youth season was held Saturday and a turkey harvested that day counted toward the season limit of two.
