West Virginia State Police say troopers trying to serve a federal search warrant fatally shot a man who pointed a rifle at them.
The shooting occurred around 6 a.m. Wednesday at a residence outside Maysel in Clay County.
First Sgt. Michael Baylous says a state police special response team knocked loudly on the door but there was no response. The troopers then forced their way into the residence and saw the man pointing a rifle at them. The troopers then shot the man.
Baylous says the man died at the scene. His name hasn’t been released.
The search warrant stemmed from an ongoing drug investigation.
