Shelter promotes W.Va. brown dogs for anniversary

CHARLESTON — The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association is encouraging residents to celebrate the state’s sesquicentennial by adopting a West Virginia brown dog.

The shelter will reduce adoption fees for West Virginia brown dogs on Thursday, the 150th anniversary of West Virginia’s statehood.

West Virginia brown dogs are mixed breeds. Shelter marketing coordinator Chelsea Smith tells the Charleston Daily Mail that she likes to think of them as “all-American mutts.”

Smith says the shelter has both mixed-breed puppies and adult dogs available for adoption.
