Charge dismissed in 2001 slaying of W.Va. woman

CHARLESTON — A first-degree murder charge against a Nitro man accused of killing a woman in 2001 has been dismissed.

A Putnam County grand jury indicted David Matthew Little of Nitro in 2011 in the slaying of 41-year-old Yvonne Thomas.

The Putnam County Prosecutor’s office tells WSAZ-TV that the charge was recently dismissed without prejudice. That means the charge could be filed again in the future.

Thomas’ body was found in April 2002 along Island Creek Road near Tornado. State police say the Montgomery woman died from a gunshot wound to the head.

She was last seen leaving a restaurant in Shrewsbury in Kanawha County with a man in July 2001.
