West Virginia University says it’s got a more diverse student population and a higher-quality freshman class this fall than it’s had in previous years.
Preliminary fall enrollment figures show freshmen this year had higher academic test scores and grade-point averages, with an average ACT score of 23.6, an average SAT of 1,052 and a GPA of 3.39.
President Jim Clements said Wednesday that international enrollment is now at 1,802, a record for the main campus in Morgantown. That’s also a 10.5 percent increase from last year.
Clements says the gains are the result of the university’s strategic plan and an increased focus on retention and graduation.
Enrollment at WVU’s three campuses is 32,348 — 1 percent less than last year.
