State Police are investigating what they call the suspicious death of an inmate at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
Regional Jail Authority spokeswoman Ashley Bennett said Monday the body of 36-year-old Charles Ellison has been sent to the West Virginia medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
She couldn’t comment on the apparent cause of death.
Media outlets say Ellison was found dead by his cell mate Friday at the jail near Norton.
Ellison had been in the jail since October 2011 on burglary, forgery and obstruction charges, as well as charges of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
