ST. ALBANS, W.Va. (AP) — A West Virginia State Police trooper run over by a suspected shoplifter remains in intensive care.
State police on Wednesday identified the injured trooper as Sgt. Aaron Nichols.
State police tell media outlets that Nichols was off duty when he attempted to stop a woman for shoplifting on Monday at a store in the St. Albans Mall.
Nicholas chased the woman outside. She got into her car and backed into the officer while fleeing.
The car has been recovered. Police are seeking a Charleston woman who is a person of interest in the case.
