Police: W.Va. bar patrons flee as shots fired

Associated Press

CROSS LANES — Kanawha County authorities are describing a chaotic scene at an early-morning shooting at a Cross Lanes bar.

Sheriff’s Cpl. B.D. Humphreys says one person was wounded in Thursday’s shooting at Appetizer’s Restaurant and Lounge. Callers reported fighting inside and outside the bar, and Humphreys says responding officers found frightened customers fleeing the scene. Humphreys says more than one handgun was fired, and several vehicles and buildings were hit.

He says a Nitro police officer stopped a minivan that had some missing glass at the Cross Lanes Intersate-64 interchange. Inside the van was 22-year-old Carlo Gray, who had been shot in the leg. Gray was treated at a Charleston hospital.

Humphreys says detectives are still trying to determine what led to the gun battle. No arrests have been made.
