PARKERSBURG — State police have identified a man who was shot and killed by a Parkersburg police officer.
West Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Michael Baylous tells media outlets that 24-year-old Steven Lewis Pfalzgraf of Parkersburg was shot after he drove a car toward the officer.
Baylous says the incident began Saturday when another man snatched a purse at the Grand Central Mall. Two Parkersburg officers chased the suspect into a parking lot. The man then got into a car driven by Pfalzgraf.
One officer was dragged after he reached into the vehicle and tried to remove the ignition key. The car then headed toward the other officer, who fired several shots.
The robbery suspect and his wife, who was a passenger in the car, later turned themselves in.
