Pitt doctor pleads not guilty in wife’s poisoning

PITTSBURGH — A University of Pittsburgh medical researcher has pleaded not guilty to charges of criminal homicide alleging he poisoned his neurologist wife by lacing an energy drink with cyanide.

Dr. Robert Ferrante entered the plea Tuesday at his arraignment in Pittsburgh a day after he waived extradition from West Virginia, where he was arrested last week.

Ferrante will have a preliminary hearing on Aug. 9. He is being held without bond.

Defense attorney William Difenderfer has said his client "adamantly" denies any involvement in the April 20 death of his wife, Dr. Autumn Klein.
