Bridgeport’s urban deer hunt has nearly twice as many bow hunters as the number of deer killed.
Bridgeport Deputy Police Chief Randy Hartley says 65 deer have been killed during the hunt as of Tuesday. The Exponent Telegram reports 125 bow hunters signed up, 14 more than last year.
They’re permitted to kill five does and two bucks. The total doesn’t count against their state licenses.
The hunt is designed to reduce the city’s deer population. It began in September and runs through the end of the year.
Hartley says he hopes the number of deer kills picks up. He says hunters killed 107 deer last year, the most since the program started in 2009.
