MONONGAH, W.Va. (AP) — A Monongah Elementary School teacher who strapped a restless child to a chair with a bungee cord has retired but will get to keep her pension.
WDTV (http://bit.ly/TuiNNt) says veteran third-grade teacher Beverly Vogel told investigators with the Marion County school board that she didn't intend to hurt the child last month.
The board agreed with parents who argued that while Vogel was wrong, her actions shouldn't cost her the pension.
The board approved her request for retirement earlier this week.
Superintendent Gary Price says no teacher involved in such an incident could be allowed to return to the classroom.
