Pelts-Smisson engagement

— — In the beautiful stone sanctuary of Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church in Lookout Mountain, Tenn., Bethany Lynn Pelts and Matthew Drake Smisson were united in the covenant of marriage at seven o’clock in the evening on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013.

The ceremony was officiated by Rev. Roger Gulick and Rev. Brian Salter.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Pelts, of Bluefield, W.Va. The groom is the son of Mrs. Susan Smisson and the late Mr. Joseph Drake Smisson, of Lookout Mountain, Ga.

Music was provided by pianist, Mary Ann McElmurray, aunt of the bride, violinist Mary McElmurray, cousin of the bride, and organist David Friberg.

The bride was attired in an ivory taffeta ball gown that featured a rouched sweetheart bodice and chapel length train. The waist was accented by a blush luxe taffeta sash with beaded appliques.

The mother of the bride wore a formal gown of midnight blue with sequin bodice and full skirt. The mother of the groom wore a bronze satin formal gown with shawl.

The matron of honor was Kristen Walker, of Signal Mountain, Tenn. Attendants were Olivia Pelts, sister-in-law of the bride, of Denver, Colo., Hope Smisson, sister of the groom, of Lookout Mountain, Ga., Megan Afman, of Chattanooga, Tenn., Rebekah Finkel, of Atlanta, Ga., Lisa Solis, of Littleton, Colo., and Amanda VanCamp, of Quakertown, Pa. The attendants were attired in black dupione silk dresses. Flower girls were Laney Fowler, of Signal Mountain, Tenn., and Reese Talley, of Lookout Mountain, Tenn.

Serving the groom as best man was Will Cooper, of South Pittsburg, Tenn., Groomsmen were brothers of the bride, Daniel Pelts, David Pelts, of Bluefield, W.Va., and Jonathan Pelts, of Denver, Colo., Donnovin Rogers, of Houston, Texas, Stephen Wharton, of Franklin, Tenn., and  Zach Woodruff, of Decatur, Ala. Cousins of the groom, Adam Hood and Alexander Hood, of Helen, Ga., served as ushers. Ring bearer was Carter Gray, of Bonaire, Ga..

Attending the guest book was Sydney Pelts, of Bluefield, Va., cousin of the bride.

After the ceremony, the bride’s family hosted a dessert reception with a wine and cheese pairing at Stratton Hall. Julie Hurley, Susan Hutchison, and Margaret Caldwell, all of Bluefield, helped with the reception.

A sparkler send-off greeted the couple as they departed for a honeymoon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

The newlyweds have returned to Lookout Mountain, Tenn., where the bride works as an administrative assistant for PlayCore, and the groom is a manager at Fowler Brothers Furniture.
