Mother, 6-year-old girl drown in Va. lake

MONTCLAIR, Va. —  A mother and her 6-year-old daughter are dead after their bodies were found in a Prince William County lake.

Prince William County Police said that a police scuba team found the bodies shortly after 6 a.m. Friday close to a dock near the family’s home on Lake Montclair. Police are not identifying the 40-year-old woman or her daughter pending notification of family.

Police say that neighbors found a 9-year-old child screaming at the top of a walkway leading to the lake at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Neighbors took the child home to wait for the child’s family to return. When the family did not return and could not be located, the neighbors called police.

A search was conducted by helicopter overnight, and the scuba team went out at daybreak Friday.
