Jury deliberates in Va. quadruple slaying case

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The case of a man charged with killing his wife and three stepchildren in Newport News has gone to the jury.

Media outlets report that the Newport News Circuit Court jury deliberated about three hours Wednesday. Deliberations resume Thursday.

John Moses Ragin is charged with three counts of capital murder, arson and related charges.

He is accused of stabbing to death his wife, Crystal Ragin, and her three children, ages 6, 11 and 15. Their bodies were found in their burned apartment on Aug. 19, 2011. Crystal Ragin was in the military and was assigned to Fort Eustis.

John Ragin was arrested the day after the slayings in South Carolina.
