3 Va teens get suspended sentences for sex assault

LEBANON, Va. — Three teenagers convicted in Russell County of sexually assaulting a classmate have received suspended sentences.

The former Castlewood High School students must complete a boot-style detention program and a diversion program.

Sixteen-year-old Kenneth Otto Purkey, 17-year-old Jonathan Corey Lasley and 16-year-old Nicholas Wythe Kiser were convicted earlier this year on charges of object sexual penetration and conspiracy.

The Bristol Herald Courier reports that Circuit Court Judge Michael Moore sentenced each teenager on Thursday to 10 years in prison and then suspended the sentences. They will be placed on supervised probation after they complete the detention and diversion programs.

According to testimony, a special needs student was jabbed between the legs with a condom that one of the teens had placed over his hand during a sleepover in April 2012.
