PULASKI, Va. — Pulaski County authorities are investigating in incident in which a man was shot in the neck with a pellet gun while driving.

The Roanoke Times reports the 54-year-old man was on his way home just before midnight Sunday when he passed a service center and felt a sharp pain on the right side of his neck. The man was not immediately identified.

Sheriff Jim Davis says the man didn’t know what had happened until he went to the emergency room later, where it was discovered that he had a wound believed to be from a pellet gun. Davis said the man had been transported from a Pulaski hospital to Roanoke for further treatment. His condition was not known.

Davis says both of the vehicle’s front windows were down.
