Vehicle backing out of parking spot kills Va child

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Police are investigating the death of a toddler who was hit by a vehicle backing out of a parking spot in Campbell County.

Virginia State Police say the accident occurred around 7 p.m. Sunday at the Whitestone Village townhome community. The 20-month-old girl was pronounced dead at Lynchburg General Hospital.

State police say several children were playing in and around the parking lot at the time.

Property manager Laura Winston tells The News & Advance that it’s the first accident involving a child at the townhome community.

Winston says she has sent out notices to parents warning them to not allow their children to play around vehicles.
