Bristol country music museum names director

BRISTOL, Va. — A Virginia Intermont College professor will lead a new country music museum in Bristol, Va.

Jessica Turner has been named director and head curator of the Birthplace of Country Music Museum. The museum is scheduled to open in August 2014.

Turner tells the Bristol Herald Courier that her goal is to make the museum fun, informative and educational.

She says she’llsremain on the faculty at Virginia Intermont with a reduced course load. She teaches cultural heritage studies and public arts.

The museum will recognize the region’s country music heritage.

The nonprofit group BCM raised more than $10 million for the project.
