School bus hits tree in Va., 14 students injured

DINWIDDIE, Va. —  Fourteen elementary students have been injured in a school bus accident in Dinwiddie County.

Virginia State Police say the bus ran off the road and hit a tree around 8 a.m. Monday.

Sgt. Thomas J. Molnar says the injuries were minor. Dinwiddie Superintendent William Clark says some were treated at John Randolph Medical Center in Hopewell and released.

According to Molnar, 41 students were on board the bus, which was traveling to Sutherland Elementary School when the accident occurred.

The driver, 63-year-old Linda C. Moss of Petersburg, also was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Molnar says Moss was charged with reckless driving for failing to maintain proper control.
