Wise County 9-year-old dies in ATV crash

POUND, Va. — Virginia State Police say a 9-year-old boy has died in an all-terrain vehicle crash in Wise County.

Austin W. Bowman apparently lost control of the ATV, which crashed and came to rest upside down. Police say he was wearing a helmet.

The Wise County Sheriff’s Office asked state police to assist in a search Wednesday after Austin’s mother reported he had been missing for several hours. A police tracking dog led deputies to the crash scene just down the road from the boy’s home.

State police say the incident remains under investigation.
