Va. governor asks schools to limit tuition hikes

RICHMOND, Va. — Gov. Bob McDonnell is asking Virginia’s public universities and colleges to limit in-state tuition and fee increases for the fall semester.

McDonnell’s office on Thursday released an April 4 letter that he sent to school presidents and boards making the request.

In the letter, McDonnell asks that tuition increases voluntarily be held to the Consumer Price Index’s annual increase.

He says he’s concerned about the affordability of a college education for young Virginia residents, despite additional state funding for higher education over the past three years.
