Virginia pilot killed in N. Indiana plane crash

KNOX, Ind. — A coroner says a pilot from Virginia died when a homemade experimental aircraft crashed near a rural county airport in northern Indiana.

The Starke County coroner says James A.W. Evans III of Stafford, Va., was killed in the Monday afternoon crash in a cornfield just south of Knox, about 30 miles southwest of South Bend. The crash site is near the Starke County Airport.

A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman says the crash involved an RV6A small-engine plane.
